No one knows the fact on the origin of the origin of Tarot Cards. There are dates back to the 11th century in China and Korea, but is different from the cards used popularly today.
The earliest used Tarot deck dates back to 1392, Europe. Over the years the church continuously banned them due to the fact that they suggest goddess worship, shamanism and pagan religious beliefs and myths. Regular decks simply had symbols such as our regular playing cards with Pentacles depicted as diamonds (security – money and support,) wands as clubs (action – business/school,) swords as spades (energy – stress or emotions) and cups as hearts (emotions such as love/desires).
R Arthur Edward Waite (1857-1942) transformed the tarot to modern times and wrote the book “The Key to the Tarot”. He had an artist paint them for translation by Pamela Coleman Smith. A regular Tarot Deck consists of 78 cards22 Major Arcana or “Greater Secrets”
- 22 Major Arcana or “Greater Secrets”
- 56 Minor Arcana or “Lesser Secrets”
- These divide into 4 suits numbered 1 through 10, with a knight, jack, king and queen
- Minor cards refer to everyday life with respect to people, good events and precautions
Tarot is helpful for understanding yourself and others with relation to opening yourself to the inner world (the self). Tarot cards are easiest for visual people to understand and learn about. If you can observe for a moment this card and what the artist was portraying.

The “sticks” the man is carrying are called Wands in Tarot. Wands represent career, business, work in general, at times it may represent housework or labor.
In this picture the man has burdened himself by taking the workload upon himself. He could have chosen to delegate and share the responsibilities but would rather do it himself or perhaps is being forced to do more than his fair share. In a nut shell it can be seen as a heavy work load.
There are many books on the market I’ve got three of my personal favorites. I’ve studied with many teachers over the years and teach my student’s the KISS method of Tarot. By the end of the class you are doing readings. Several of my local students are now actively doing home parties for friends and colleagues. If you would like to be notified when I’m holding my next class please place your name on my mailing list located on the home page.
